Activities

Speaking Engagements

Talks and presentations delivered for both public and private events. They can be designed for business and/or technical audiences of all levels, although mixing them up can make sessions interesting…  Topics range from high-level strategy to demonstrating potential through industry case studies and practical working solutions, all delivered in a clear and concise format

Exploratory Workshops

Half and full-day workshops to explore a system, topic or technology in detail, either to evaluate the health of a current implementation or explore upgrading/introducing a new platform.  This can include a cost-benefit analysis of the options, evaluating business requirements and defining approaches to adopting SharePoint for information and knowledge-based activities

Project Consulting

A multi-day engagement to assist introducing SharePoint – either strategically as a new platform organisation-wide, or for tactical solutions to meet specific business needs such as portals and performance dashboards, process automation through forms and workflow, document and records management systems, encouraging knowledge sharing through communities of practice

Scenarios

Business-IT Strategy

Working with CxOs, IT, IM/KM and project leads to evaluate current systems and business needs that SharePoint may be able to assist with. I can help develop and articulate the business case for strategic buy-in to new ways of working, and help the project team scope activities required to deliver desired outcomes

Popular topics include: information and digital workplace strategies, content management including documents and records, communications, collaborative working, enterprise social networks, productivity applications, performance analysis and process improvement

Architecture and Design

Converting business needs into practical working solutions. Outcomes can include:

  • Platform architecture, including performance and capacity planning, for new implementations
  • Information governance needs to manage organisation-wide and growing deployments
  • Individual solution designs: mapping business requirements to a technical scope and functional specification describing the visual layout, interaction and elements to be configured
  • Prototypes to demonstrate possibilities and evaluate options before committing investment

In all projects, the goal is to enable the organisation to be self-sufficient moving forward. Solutions are designed using ‘out of the box’ capabilities and kept within support boundaries of the products involved.  Follow-up work is usually in the form of reviews of in-house designs, ad-hoc guidance when needed and additional solution designs

Background Information

I have been working with information, communications and collaborative platforms for over 20 years, and with SharePoint for the past 13 years, developing a deep understanding of technology capabilities, information management responsibilities, usability needs, business priorities and dependencies such as political barriers to change

As well as ongoing research into the impact of digital, social and mobile trends, interests span the business and social benefits of new technology, the practicalities of delivering enterprise-level services (compliance, reliability, scalability etc.) and understanding how people and the culture of the organisation can influence the effectiveness of IT
